Omaha, Neb. – Those of the pale complexion and fearers of the sun, fear no longer!

Free sunblock can now be found throughout Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, the zoo announced Thursday in a release, thanks to the support of Dr. Mary Finnegan of Braddock Finnegan Dermatology in Omaha.

“We are observing a rise in the incidence of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers, and the age at first diagnosis is decreasing,” Finnegan said in the release.  “The number of precancerous lesions is reduced with sun protection into adult years, so it is never too late to take care of one’s skin and to develop healthier skin care habits.”

“An estimated 23 percent of lifetime sun exposure occurs before age 18.  Sunscreen, protective clothing and hats help to protect against damaging ultraviolet rays that lead to skin cancer.  Sunscreen should be reapplied every 80-90 minutes.”

Sunblock dispensers are available at the following areas:
Alaskan Adventure
Camel Ride
Children’s Playground
African Lodge Restrooms
Red Barn Park
Silverback Café Restrooms
Sea Lion Restrooms
Skyfari Butterfly Platform
Skyfari Lion Platform
